Not wasted on you...
Genre: heavy metal / alternative metal
I bought the latest issue of Classic Rock because it featured a number of articles on the late Ronnie James Dio, and, whaddayaknow, this EP by Furyon was included, likely to promote their "Gravitas" album from this year. And what a pleasant surprise that was.
The three tracks on this EP all draw on traditional heavy metal and the alternative rock/metal approaches of the 1990s, but adding a heavier post-2000 sound. The stand-out track for me is "Wasted on You" with its quasi-progressive parts and interesting guitar harmonies which are combined with groovy riffs and Zakk Wylde-ish guitar screams and melodic vocal lines. The two other tracks are a bit more straightforward, yet similar in their combination of heavy and groovy riffs and melodic vocal lines, and virtuous guitar solos. While having a very contemporary sound, there is a certain 1990s feel to "Underdog", which I assume also characterizes "Gravitas".
If you're going to pick up this month's issue of Classic Rock anyway, why not check out this album? Your money will not be wasted on this, and, if you like heavy metal and 1990s alternative rock/metal, neither will your time.
