About this release
Mind Ripper Collective, 23 December 2014
Written in memory of guitarist/vocalist Jamie Christ's younger brother, Sam, who committed suicide on Dec. 2nd, 2007 at the age of 17. All digital download proceeds were donated to the Scottish Association of Mental Health.
"On the 2nd of December 2007 aged just 17, my younger brother took his own life.
An incredible artist and musician, he was constantly drawing and writing. After he died I went through his art and lyrics to try and understand what was going through his head. I found a single verse that particularly touched me and seemed to fit what we knew about the circumstances of his death. I knew it was recently written because whenever he finished a song he would send it to me straight away.
Years later I still struggle every day with losing my brother and best friend. I was going through his works again and came across that same verse. I decided to de-construct the verse and use each part as a song title. Each song title would be articulated as lyrics about my brothers suicide, some from my perspective and some from his.
I hoped that in creating this I would alleviate myself of some of the feelings of loss and betrayal while creating an element of catharsis about it. of all the art and music I have ever made, this is the most true and honest to how I feel. Performing this music is painful for me but it is something inside me that I feel I need to get out.
I miss my brother every day.
I love you Sam.
Jamie Christ"
