"Out of Respect for the Dead" is the 11th full-length studio album by Swedish death metal act Grave. The album was released through Century Media Records in October 2015. It´s the successor to "Endless Procession Of Souls" from 2012 and features the same four-piece lineup who recorded the predecessor as well as the "Morbid Ascent" EP from 2013, which bridges the gab between the two full-length releases.
Stylistically it´s hard not to say that it´s more of the same...because it is more of the same. Old school Swedish death metal with brutal buzzing riffs, a solid pounding rythmic foundation, and brutal yet intelligible growling vocals in front. Grave have always (with few exceptions) been rock solid in their conviction and performance of their brand of death metal, and it´s hard not to be impressed by their uncompromising nature. The material on the 9 track, 48:20 minutes long album are well written but lacking a bit in the variation department. It´s not always easy to tell when one track ends and another starts. For that there are not enough catchy hooks or recognisable elements featured on the tracks. That doesn´t mean the overall quality of "Out of Respect for the Dead" isn´t high, because it certainly is. It just means there is room for improvement in the songwriting department.
"Out of Respect for the Dead" features a raw, brutal, and powerful sound production, which suits the rawness of the material perfectly. The music is well performed too, and upon conclusion "Out of Respect for the Dead" is another solid death metal release by Grave. It dosn´t stand out in their discography but fans of the band will probably still enjoy this one greatly, as more of the same isn´t necessarily a negative in their book. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
