UMUR
"The Dark Side of Death" is a compilation album by Swedish death metal act Grave. The compilation was released through Century Media Records in June 2012 and it was an exclusive release, which came with the 79th number of the German metal magazine "Legacy".
The compilation features eight tracks and a total playing time of 35:45 minutes. "Passion of the Weak" and "Perimortem" are culled from the then upcoming 10th Grave full-length studio album "Endless Prosession of Souls" (Century Media Records, August 2012). "Vermin" is an Asphyx cover taken from the "Century Media - Covering 20 Years Of Extremes" (Century Media Records, 2008) various artists compilation album. "In Love" and "Extremely Rotten Flesh" are both live versions of tracks from Grave´s 1991 debut full-length studio album "Into the Grave" (Century Media Records, August 1991). They were recorded at a Stockholm, Sweden concert in 2011 and are exclusive to this release.
"Morbid Way to Die" is culled from "You'll Never See..." (Century Media Records, May 1992). "Unholy Terror" is from "As Rapture Comes" (Century Media Records, July 2006), and "Turning Black" is taken from "Soulless" (Century Media Records, June 1994).
So it´s a bit of an odd compilation, which is part promotion for the soon to the released new album ("Endless Prosession of Souls" ), part rarity compilation, and part best-of compilation. I can´t say that I´m a fan of these types of unfocused compilations, which feels like they are compiled almost at random. There´s nothing wrong with the material though, and judged on that a 3.5 star (70%) rating isn´t all wrong.
