'Filthy Empire' stole my attention right on the very first time I spin this and gradually grows on me. Quite a surprise since at first, some magazines define this as a mix of alternative and hard rock which is not my favorite, but despite some modern touch here and there, this album is basically favor the classic hard rock style.
My favorite tracks here are 'Welcome Home', which is a cool uptempo piece and serve as a monstrous opener; 'Nothing Left To Lose', which slightly slow down the pace but loaded with heavy riffs; 'The Long Goodbye' which is strangely reminds me of NIRVANA's hooks but much more melodic and the chorus is also very catchy; 'The Price We Pay' is a smooth and heartfelt ballad; and 'Jump Back' sounds very energetic and lively.
There are several weaker moments here. 'Fire,Fire' might be too alternative for me although the groovy riffs is awesome; 'Lights Out In London' didn't work very well but still a fine song I guess; and 'I Am Electric' is too chaotic and lack of variation. The big production is a strong point, a very prominent musician and lots of varied style to explore here makes a good addition to the whole point and if you like great hard rock stuff, HEAVEN'S BASEMENT did an excellent job on their debut.
