Entertaining Satanic thrash...
Genre: thrash metal
Satan and metal go together hand in hand... especially in Australia, it seems. Hellbringer is one out of many Australian thrash metal bands who align themselves with the evil one, and thus this album is full of hymns and odes to Satan.
If black thrash is defined as primitive and dirty thrash, then this is not black thrash proper, for, despite the references to Satan and friends, "Dominion of Darkness" is far from primitive and dirty. Drawing on thrash metal and speed metal, the music on the album is fast and aggressive, and there are certainly a couple of black metal elements every now and then, but there is a certain level of technicality in some passages that is not typical of raw black thrash. Still, the album has the energy that characterizes the simpler types thrash metal.
Fast, furious and Satanic, "Dominion of Darkness" is not exactly the most original album in the world. This type of thrash/speed metal has been heard before. But, you know what, for what it is, it is pretty good, and I, for one like it.
Satanically entertaining, this speed-thrash hybrid album should appeal to fans of early Slayer, Nekromantheon, Aura Noir, Demona as well as classic Teutonic thrash.
