This EP comes from the early 90's period of Iron Maiden's career, when the band seems to have shifted away from the "progressiveness" of their earlier material. This has resulted in a lot of negative criticism on our sister site Prog Archives. Although this is definitely not the best thing the band has ever put out, I still like this EP a lot. I will concede the songs here are simpler and more straightforward than a lot of the band's material, but I'm a fan of the FEAR OF THE DARK era.
"Roll Over Vic Vella" here is, of course, just the Chuck Berry classic with changed lyrics. I can do without all the talking, but otherwise this is an enjoyable cover version. I have never heard the original Budgie song before (or any of their songs!), but I like what I'm hearing. I would argue that this live version of "No Prayer for the Dying", with its shifting tempos, is the most progressive song here. A band as prolific and long-standing as Iron Maiden is should get credit for changing their sound once in a while, and this EP is a worthy addition to their discography.
