"Wandering Deathbird" is an EP release by Danish crossover/hardcore act Justin Hate. The EP was independently released in January 2012.
The music on the 6 track, 16:25 minutes long EP is a combination of metallic hardcore and groovy based metal with a slight nod towards thrash metal. Justin Hate have a style that somewhat reminds me of fellow countrymen in The Kandidate although frontman Kim Rock has a more screaming type vocal delivery than Jacob Bredahl´s ditto. Most of the tracks on the EP are short, to the point and aggressive tracks, but the band don´t neglect to occasionally take the tempo down to slow and heavy when that is needed. The tracks "Wandering Deathbird" and "True Nihilist" are both in the heavier catagory of the band´s music, and it suits Justin Hate well to incorporate more heavy tracks for variation. The former mentioned also features some clean guitar parts, which is a nice diversion compared to the otherwise aggressive and raw sound of the music.
The sound production is clean, detailed and powerful. I guess I could have wished for a more organic sounding production, but it´s a minor issue and probably an aquired taste.
Overall "Wandering Deathbird" is a quality release by Justin Hate and I´d definitely be interested in listening to a debut album if one is in the making. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
