UMUR
"And the Rest Will Surely Perish" is the debut full-length studio album by US doom metal act Kings Destroy. The album was released in November 2010 by The Maple Forum. The Maple Forum is a new label and "And the Rest Will Surely Perish" is only the second release on the label.

The music on the album is old school doom metal. Act like Saint Vitus and Black Sabbath are obvious references. The "classic" use of blues based heavy doom metal riffing doesn´t present anything new but it´s effective. Kings Destroy deliver their doom metal with an infectious slow paced groove that´s greatly enjoyable. The album took me a while to get into, mostly because of Steve Murphy´s voice, which I wish was a bit more raw and powerful, but after repeatedly spinning the album for a couple of months, the voice thing has become a minor issue and I´ve ended up really enjoying this album. However I still recommend that Steve Murphy smokes 2 packs of cigarettes and drinks a bottle of scotch a day to add more hoarseness to his voice before Kings Destroy record their next album. The rythm section could have been a bit more adventurous and loose too but other than that the playing on the album is impeccable. All tracks are of high quality and after a couple of spins I was able to remember most of them.

The production by Sanford Parker suits the music well. It´s got the right organic feel to satisfy fans of old school seventies doom metal.

Fans of the classic seventies blues based doom metal sound are recommended to check out "And the Rest Will Surely Perish". A 3.5 - 4 star rating is deserved. It´s great to hear that this style of doom metal can still be played with conviction and without sounding too retro. The influences might be obvious, but there´s still something fresh and forward thinking about how Kings Destroy deliver their music.
