Kiss reached a low point with this terrible album. I was the biggest Kiss fan collecting memorabilia, magazines, literally every album and then I was shocked at this sound. It was a heavier Kiss with dirtier lyrics and no makeup and no magic.
There is nothing, absolutely nothing worth salvaging on this album unless you count the album closer which has an excellent vocal from Simmons: “And on the 8th day, God created rock and Roll”. Eric Carr's drums are great on this.
Highlights? Well there were two singles ‘All Hell's Breakin' Loose’ and the stupid ‘Lick It Up’, neither of which sounded any different than any of the other hard rock bands of the time. This was the problem I had. They were just like any other band, forgettable songs throughout and very poor musicianship.
Ace was gone, my favourite member and Vinnie Vincent tried his hand at lead solos. He wasn’t good to be honest. Paul virtually screams, there is not tension or release, it’s just a loud noise. ‘Dance all over Your face’ surely has the stupidest lyrics in Kiss history, and that idiotic song ‘Fits Like a Glove’ is Simmons at his worst. This album is the pits. Avoid like the plague.
