Genre: sludge doom
The Swedish gorilla sludge doomsters are back! Their third full-length effort "Sole Creation" offers four tracks with an average song length of around 11-12 minutes.
As you might have guessed, the music is on the slow and heavy side, and, true to sludge metal tradition, the guitar sound is harsh and heavy. While very bleak, the music on "Sole Creation" is actually not as harsh and unpleasant as a lot of sludge doom is. The vocals have more of an introvert alternative rock feel to them than the otherwise quite common in sludge metal. Moreover, there are some more melodic elements every now and then amidst the crushing grooves and the doom-laden tempos.
One of the strengths of this album is that it draws quite a lot on doom metal, rather than pure sludge - at times, the music even reminds me of Saint Vitus or Pentagram. So, fans of stoner doom and old school doom metal who do not mind a bit of sludge are likely to enjoy Kongh's latest effort.
