Spit or Swallow is the 2nd full-length studio album by Danish death metal act Konkhra. The album was recorded in Sunlight Studio and produced by Fred Estby and Konkhra. After the teaser Facelift EP which was released in December 1994 I remember I had great expectations to Spit or Swallow when it was released in April 1995.
The music on the album is a continuation of the brutal death metal with groove thrash elements that was initiated on The Facelift EP. For those who enjoyed the more simple and groove oriented style of the EP compared to the more technical death metal style of the debut album Sexual Affective Disorder (1993), Spit or Swallow should certainly apply to those needs. Songs like the opener Centuries or the title track pretty much kill everything on their way with equal amounts of brutality and groove.
The production is similar to the sound on the EP. Brutal and edgy.
Spit or Swallow is a great death metal album but I wouldn´t call it outstanding in any way. Above average though and deserving a 3.5 star rating.
