Fallen so far...

Genre: doom metal

Hailing from London, England - and not Norway, although their band name suggests otherwise - Landskap released their debut album "I" in January. The album is now being issued in vinyl on Iron Bonehead Production.

The four tracks on the album fall under the rubric of psychedelic doom. I won't call it stoner doom though, because Landskap's music is richer in so many ways than your average stoner doom band. The four tracks are still trance inducing and make efficient use of the power of repetition. Thus, the opening track 'A Nameless Fool' revolves around only a couple of riffs accompanied by psychedelic and bluesy guitar solos, introvert vocals, and 70s rock organs, but evolves into more of a soft version of funeral doom, featuring mournful guitar harmonies. 'My Cabin in the Woods' is a nice little instrumental mellow piece which is even kind of uplifting. 'Fallen So Far' is another 70s rock inspired doom composition, which is considerably groovy and probably the closest this album comes to stoner doom. It does evolve into a faster song with a nice drive. 'To Harvest the Storm' is another instrumental, but this time a more dynamic and upbeat one taking the listener from one psychedelic section to another.

"I" is actually a pretty good album. For my sake people can stuff their so-called stoner doom in their pipe and smoke it. Landskap's "I" shows us how psychedelic doom metal is supposed to sound!
