Genre: dark ambient
A compilation of sorts, this release features tracks from hard-to-come by EP and cassette releases from the Swedish atmospheric black metal act Lustre, and should thus be quite valuable to fans.
The five tracks lean more towards dark ambient than black metal, and are rich in both atmospheric keyboard effects and melancholic melodies also performed on keyboards. There are black metal elements, to be sure, in the form of heavily distorted guitars and what sounds like programmed drums. The black metal instrumentation is, however, not ubiquitous and serves more of a background function. In terms of vocals Nachtzeit - the only member of Lustre - makes use of harsh screechy vocal noises and tortured screams.
So, yes, there are black metal elements, but this release is primarily a dark ambient one, and there is more Depeche-Mode-gone-Satanic atmosphere than proper black metal mayhem on "Lost in Lustrous Night Skies".
Fans of Lustre specifically, and of dark ambient music in general, should definitely track down this collection of Lustre rarities. If you are not into, or do not understand, dark ambient music, then your money is better spent on something else.
