"Come Undone" is an EP release by Finnish rock/metal act Mind Riot. The EP was released through Sakara Records in May 2017. It´s a comeback release as Mind Riot haven´t been active since the late 90s and their last release before this one was their second full-length studio album "Inferno Go-Go" from 1996.
As Mind Riot have been through several phases of musical expression it´s almost impossible to guess beforehand what the four tracks on "Come Undone" will sound like, and not surprisingly they don´t sound much like anything they´ve released before. The energy and hard rocking vers/chrous structures of "Inferno Go-Go" are still there, but now it´s within a melodic death metal context. A style of music Mind Riot have never flirted with before. There are still clean vocal sections, but I´d label the music melodic death metal before calling it alternative rock/metal. It´s all well performed and well composed, but it´s also a bit generic and hardly unique.
Upon conclusion "Come Undone" is a good quality comeback release from Mind Riot, but I´d be surprised to hear if anyone missed them. Not that they haven´t released some interesting music in the past, but they were always a cult act, with very few followers, and changing their sound again, and to something as generic as melodic death metal, probably won´t lure the old fans back into the fold. But they may find new fans and as mentioned "Come Undone" is arguably a good quality release, so who knows...A 3 - 3.5 star (65%) rating is warranted.
