"Cremated Alive" is the 2nd demo release by Danish death metal act Mold. The demo was released through Extremely Rotten Records in March 2013. i>"Cremated Alive" was recorded and mixed in June 2012 and features 4 tracks and a full playing time of 15:24 minutes. "Heinous Deformities" and "Terrifying Visions" from the "KTDF Promo (2012)" demo are also included here albeit in different versions.
The music on "Cremated Alive" are in the department of raw and filthy old school death metal. Actually not completely unlike the output by their fellow countrymen in Undergang. This is just even more raw, primitive, and noisy than what the guys in Undergang conjure up. The sound production is noisy, distorted, and raw to the bone. It almost sounds like the tracks were recorded live in the studio. The vocals are abysmal deep and completely unintelligible growling.
The 4 tracks on the demo are not that easy to tell apart, and while Mold certainly deliver their music with both passion and conviction, the songwriting is a bit one-dimensional and as a consequence of the raw and murky sound production some listeners will probably find "Cremated Alive" a really hard/harsh listening experience. If you enjoy old school death metal in the most raw form imaginable, "Cremated Alive" should be of some interest though. It´s not particularly original but fans of the genre probably couldn´t care less. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
