UMUR
Resurrection Absurd is the debut release by German death metal act Morgoth. Resurrection Absurd is a 5 track, 22:56 minute long EP. The EP was released in September 1989 through Century Media Records. It´s one of the earliest examples of German death metal. Resurrection Absurd was re-released in 1991 by Century Media Records together with Morgoth´s 2nd EP release The Eternal Fall (1990) on one CD.
The music on the EP is old school death metal with the strong growling vocals by Marc Grewe in front. His Chuck Schuldiner meets John Tardy type vocal delivery is pretty unique and he is part of the rare breed of death metal vocalists that stand out from the crowd. The 5 tracks on Resurrection Absurd are well played and well composed without reaching real excellence though. Think Leprosy (1988) by Death meets Slowly We Rot (1989) by Obituary and you have a pretty good idea of how the music on the EP sounds. The production is pretty raw but suits the music very well.
Resurrection Absurd is a great first release by Morgoth and while they would go on to release much better releases later on, it shouldn´t take away from the fact that this is a good EP which deserves a 3.5 star rating.
