UMUR
Resurrection Absurd / The Eternal Fall is a compilation album by pioneering German death metal act Morgoth. The compilation contains the two first EP releases by the band Resurrection Absurd (1989) and The Eternal Fall (1990). The compilation was released in 1991 by Century Media Records.
The 10 tracks from the two EPs are some of the earliest examples of German death metal and in that respect both EPs are quite essential. Morgoth´s music is brutal death metal but with memorable hooks and the strong vocals by Marc Grewe. His Chuck Schuldiner meets John Tardy type vocal delivery is greatly enjoyable IMO. The tracks from the The Eternal Fall is a notch better than the tracks from Resurrection Absurd but the quality is high throughout. The same can be said about the sound production.
Resurrection Absurd / The Eternal Fall is a great opportunity to get two EPs that are probably very hard to find in their original form on one CD and if you like your death metal old school, this compilation will certainly apply. Today Morgoth is often refered to as a German "cult" death metal act, which I feel is an unjust description. Back when Morgoth released their EPs and albums they were considered one of the leading acts on the death metal scene and most of their releases received high praise from the metal community back then. Time seems to have forgotten them though which is rather sad really. A 3.5 star rating is deserved.
