UMUR
Welcome to the Bear Trap is a Best of/Compilation album by UK hard rock/ heavy metal act Motörhead. The album was released in 1990 by Castle Communications. It´s another Best of/Compilation album in a long string of Best of/Compilation albums released by the band ( or maybe more correctly by various labels) beginning with the No Remorse Best of/Compilation album, which was released in September 1984. Welcome to the Bear Trap covers the recording period from 1977 - 1984. The album features 20 tracks.

As far as compilations go Welcome to the Bear Trap is pretty much as good as any other compilation of Motörhead tracks from the period 1977 - 1984. Most of the "hits", like Ace of Spades, Motörhead, Iron Fist, Overkill and Stay Clean, are here, but all albums released in the period are represented with at least one track and that includes a couple of the tracks that were specifically recorded for the No Remorse Best of/Compilation album ( Snaggletooth is especially a welcome inclusion IMO) and also a couple from the live album No Sleep 'til Hammersmith (1981). So all in all Welcome to the Bear Trap works well as a compilation of Motörhead tracks from that era and bearing in mind the fantastic nature of the material, Welcome to the Bear Trap could well deserve a 4 star rating. The only problem here is that the album feels a bit unnecessary if you for example already have the No Remorse Best of/Compilation album. No Remorse includes songs from exactly the same era and even includes 4 original tracks specifically recorded for that compilation. So there goes at least a half star. A half star more goes because this album more than anything comes off as a cash-in more than an actual necessary release. So a 3 star rating it is. If you´re new to Motörhead and just want a sneak peak into their early output I´d suggest you leave this one alone though and go get No Remorse instead.
