UMUR
"Hollow Cathedra" is a single release by UK doom metal act My Dying Bride. The single is a one-sided flexi-disc, which came with the October 2015 issue of Decibel Magazine (#132). The "Hollow Cathedra" track was recording during the sessions for the band´s 13th full-length studio album "Feel the Misery" (released in September 2015), but didn´t make the cut for the album tracklist.
Listening to the track it´s pretty obvious it´s not for lack of quality that My Dying Bride opted not to include "Hollow Cathedra" on "Feel the Misery (2015)", because it´s every bit as great as the material featured on the album. Dark, heavy, and drenched in melancholy as always when dealing with My Dying Bride. There are no growling vocals on the track, and it features dominant use of harmony guitars and some violin too. It´s generally a very atmospheric track.
The value of a one-sided flexi-disc single is a bit hard to judge, but only taking the music into account, I think "Hollow Cathedra" is another high quality doom metal release by My Dying Bride, and while it´s not a release you can´t live without, it´s definitely worth seeking out if you enjoy "Feel the Misery (2015)" and would like to hear more from those sessions. A 3.5 - 4 star (75%) rating is deserved.
