UMUR
"Up The Dosage" is the 6th full-length studio album by US hard rock act Nashville Pussy and the first since "From Hell to Texas" from 2009. "Up The Dosage" was released through Steamhammer/SPV in January 2014. The lineup fatures one change since the last album as bassist Karen Kuda has been replaced by Bonnie Buitrago after an 8 year stint with the band. Bonnie Buitrago is bassist number 5 in Nashville Pussy since their formation in 1997.
Stylistically the lineup change has little effect, because the music on "Up The Dosage" is unmistakably the sound of Nashville Pussy. It´s filthy and raw rock´n´roll with a southern edge and the occasional punked beat like it´s always been. The band also manage to be as offensive as ever with songtitles like "Hooray for Cocaine, Hooray for Tennessee", "Pussy's Not a Dirty Word" and "Before the Drugs Wear Off". The latter, which features strong southern leanings, is especially offensive with it´s lyrics about having sex with a 10 months pregnant young girl, high on drugs, while your wife is out of town. Nashville Pussy always took the term "Sex, drugs & rock´n´roll" to the extreme and the music and lyrics on "Up The Dosage" are no exception.
The tracks are as usual pretty basic hard rock tunes with Blaine Cartwright´s snarling vocals in front and Ruyter Suys bluesy guitar licks, solos, and hard rocking riffing to support them. The rythm section of drummer Jeremy Thompson and bassist Bonnie Buitrago are hard hittin and solid.
"Up The Dosage" features a suiting organic and powerful sound production. It could have been slightly better if it had been a bit more raw and gritty, but it´s still an enjoyable sound. Upon conclusion "Up The Dosage" is not an album that adds much new to Nashville Pussy´s by now signature sound, but it´s a damn solid hard rock album in the raw end of the scale, featuring a nice offensive "fuck you" attitude, sure to scare your mom away. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
