NSBM is a miserable and self-contradictory affair - based as it is on a philosophy based around authoritarianism and an appeal to a false sense of traditional purity trying to leech off a musical movement rooted in rebellion, defiance of authority, disdain for normality and extreme stylistic experimentation.
Nonetheless, a certain neo-fascist presence has existed at the margins of the black metal scene for absolute years - thanks a bunch, Varg Vikernes - and whilst in years past they could have been laughed off as irrelevant clowns, the rise of far-right and fascist-leaning movements worldwide risks making the joke no longer funny any more.
Along come Neckbeard Deathcamp, then, who thankfully prove on this debut release that you can call out fascists on their shit whilst still also making it funny. Taking the dark kvlt ethos of black metal - particularly the corners of black metal which NSBM assholes like to appropriate - they turn their guns not just on NSBM but on all those who are trying to promote far right nonsense through mass media and Internet platforms like 4Chan these days.
This is conducted with the accompaniment of some pretty damn excellent hardcore black metal, with a certain amount of flair and imagination involved too. For instance, vocalist Kreigmeister Hatestorm steps goes quiet on closing track The Fetishization ov Asian Women Despite a Demand for a Pure White Race in order to allow a (synthesised?) voice to deliver what's a rarity in black metal an actually cogent and coherent political argument, making the point that the supposed "rebellion" represented by alt-right nonsense online is nothing more than agitating on behalf of the privileged status quo.
In short, White Nationalism is for Basement Dwelling Losers does for black metal what the Dead Kennedys' Nazi Punks Fuck Off did for the hardcore punk scene, in terms of standing up and pointing out that the ethos of far right elements in black metal is entirely incompatible with the freedoms that the black metal scene is supposed to celebrate. (Anyone who seriously expects a fascist government to look kindly on an underground extreme metal scene is absolutely fucking kidding themselves.) On top of that, it pours all the anger and sardonic disdain that the black metal format can muster all over the sacred cows of 4Chan fascism.
