"Slit Wrists and Casket Rot" is a live album by US death metal act Necrophagia. The album was released through Red Stream, Inc. in June 2006. It´s a limited edition live album recorded on the "Harvesting the Dead" tour supporting Necrophagia´s April 2005 "Harvest Ritual (Volume I)" album. The original version of the live album also included a bonus CD-rom clip for "Blood Freak". "Slit Wrists and Casket Rot" is the culmination of the 2002-2005 lineup, which slowly disintegrated after the departure of guitarist Frediablo in September 2005.
A fitting end to one of the most stabile lineups in Necrophagia´s history. A lineup who recorded two full-length studio albums, one EP, and released this live album. The tracklist, maybe a bit surprisingly only features tracks from Necrophagia´s 1998 comeback album "Holocausto de la morte" onwards and not a single track from their legendary 1987 "Season of the Dead" debut album, but of course Mirai Kawashima´s horror themed synths/keyboards are also better utilized on the contemporary material. It´s definitely a conscious choice as the band probably knew that questions would be asked when leaving out material from "Season of the Dead".
I´m not sure about this but it sounds like the album was recorded at one show. You don´t really hear the audience but lead vocalist Killjoy talks to them a few times during the show. The musicianship is tight and the performances are on a high level (both the instrumental and the vocal performances). The sound quality is decent, although it´s a bit thin and lacks some heavy bottom. It´s not a lo-fi recording though, just a bit rough around the edges. A 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
