Genre: progressive death metal

Holy shit! This kicks fucking ass!

Neuraxis' style on this album draws on both modern technical death metal and old school rawer death metal, which means that you can expect both technical and primitive riffage on "Asylon" and, coupled with blastbeats galore (but never too many - and they always pop up in very suitable places), this combination works perfectly.

The music is complex, to be sure, and even progressive, but Neuraxis are good at restraining themselves such that the technical level never goes overboard (although I am sure they're skilled enough musicians to pull that off), and the main locis of complexity is the combination of a lot of different riffage and tempos within the same composition. In addition the band makes good use of some odd chords and harmonies as well as some almost jazz fusion-like elements now and then. What's more is that they are not afraid to use melodic riffs and guitar harmonies on top of the otherwise aggressive and brutal music.

My only points of criticism is that a couple of tracks sound like fillers, and then there are also a couple of pig squeals (I don't like pig squeals), but - hey - the music kicks so much ass that I can immerse myself in the music and look for interesting details, this ignoring the pig squeals (and there aren't that many anyway).

In my opinion Neuraxis should be in the same league as Death, Atheist, Cynic and Pestilence, and on, "Asylon", they deliver innovative, complex and challenging death metal.
