After literally a shitload of minor releases in the form of splits, EPs, and live albums, the Christianity-hating chaos-wielders in Nunslaughter are finally ready with another full-length album in the form of "Angelic Dread". In fact, this is a double album with the first disc featuring 15 original tracks and the second disc featuring rerecordings of songs prevoously only released on 7'' vinyl.
On this album, the band offers up a relatively simple brand of death-thrash, evolving around straightforward thrashy riffs and songs which are generally kept rather short. And this is the secret of success here. Keep it simple and aggressive, and make your songs short enough to contain the energy without the air slowly leaving the balloon. There is even a crossover element on this album, as there are several passages that sound a bit crusty or hardcore-like. While Nunslaughter reveled in blastbeats in their early days, there are not that many grind-parts of this album, but the few blastbeat sections to be heard in this album do work very well. Nunslaughter albums are typically good evil fun, and this also applies to this one. I mean, just check out the puke effects on the epically titled 'Sickened by the Sight of Christ'.
The production is crisp and potent and for a Hell's Headbangers release surprisingly non lo-fi, and this does not do Nunslaughter's aggressive music any disfavors; on the contrary, it brings the energy and power to the forefront. For my money, that's exactly how thrash metal should sound production-wise.
Fans of thrash metal who are in the mood for a bit of anti-Christian evil fun should definitely check out this massive thrashfest.
