"Abduction of Limbs" is the second demo recording by Norwegian death metal act Old Funeral. The demo was independently released in July 1990. It´s the successor to the 1989 "The Fart That Should Not Be" demo. No lineup changes have taken place and Old Funeral are still the trio of Olve "On the Egg" (later Abbath) on vocals/bass, Padde (Jan Atle Åserød) on drums, and Tore Bratseth on guitars.
It´s apparent right away from listening to "Abduction of Limbs", that Old Funeral have honed their playing skills and their songwriting since the relatively crude and primitive first demo. This is also a much more serious recording (the contemporary demos from Cadaver are a good reference). The band play a blackened death metal style which is quite aggressive, very fast-paced, and brutal. The vocals are snarling and caustic (closer to raspy black metal snarling than to death metal growling). It´s energetic, noisy, and savage sounding music, but it works really well.
Old Funeral have managed to create a relatively well sounding recording quality, considering that "Abduction of Limbs" is an early-90s death metal demo. The strong, organic, and raw sounding production job, along with the effective songwriting, and decent musicianship, contribute to "Abduction of Limbs" being an overall good quality demo and a 3 star (60%) rating is warranted.
