"Devoured Carcass" is an EP released by Norwegian death metal act Old Funeral. The EP was released through Thrash Records in June 1991. It follows the release of Old Funerals two demos from 1989 and 1990. There have been some lineup changes since the July 1990 "Abduction of Limbs" demo, as vocalist/bassist Olve "On the Egg" (later Abbath) has left. Drummer Padde (Jan Atle Åserød) has taken over the vocal duties in addition to playing drums, while Thorlak Sigvaldason has joined on bass. Kristian "Varg" Vikernes has also joined Old Funeral as second guitarist, while Tore Bratseth reprise his guitarist role, making the band a quartet on "Devoured Carcass".
"Devoured Carcass" would be Old Funeral´s last release in their original run as they would disband in 1992. But with "Devoured Carcass" they certainly left with a big, murky, and loud death metal bang. This is slimy, gloomy, and doomy death metal which should please most fans of the cavern/cloak early 90s death metal sound (artists like Autopsy and Incantation are valid references). Old Funeral also play faster chaotic sounding parts, and drowned in a raw, murky, and organic sounding production job, this is a gloomy and savage sounding EP. There´s quality beneath the noise and distortion though and a 3 - 3.5 star (60%) rating is warranted.
