Satan knew my secret heart....
Genre: avant-garde drone atmospheric post-something something metal
Kind of metal, but not quite metal, the one-man project Opium Warlords' "We Meditate Under the Pussy in the Sky" is one of those releases that really challenge the listener.
Going from elaborate soundscapes over explosive progressive rock/metal passages and minimalistic droning bass notes to slow doom metal passages, this album is not easy listening. But it's interesting, and I think that's the entire purpose.
The production is relatively lo-fi, with the distorted guitars being razor sharp and the drums sounding fuzzy, while the bass has a certain roundness to it. I am sure that many mainstream music listeners will find this unlistenable. On top, the harsh vocals serve to make the experience even more unpleasant. And unpleasant, I think, is exactly what this album is supposed to be.
Drone fans who enjoy being challenged might find this album enjoyable, and listeners who like testing themselves may also find it attractive.
