"Lost In Time" is a free compilation sampler album released in June 2012 through Century Media Records. The sampler is available for free download (limited to 4,400 downloads) on Metal Sucks.net. In contrast to other compilations/best of albums "Lost In Time" does not necessarily feature the band´s best or most popular songs, but instead the compilation features 1 track from each of Paradise Lost´s 13 albums from "Lost Paradise (1990)" to "Tragic Idol (2012)".
"Lost In Time" is quite an interesting journey through the band´s discography and it successfully documents Paradise Lost´s development from a rather brutal doom/death metal act, to a gothic tinged doom metal act, to a fully fledged goth rock/metal act and back to a gothic tinged doom metal act. "Nothing Sacred" from "Host (1999)" is the odd one out here, with it´s pop flavoured Depeche Mode worship, but that of course goes for the full "Host (1999)" album, which is probably the most unpopular album in the band´s discography. Other than that one, "Lost In Time" features quite a few "classics" like "Eternal" from "Gothic (1991)", "As I Die" from "Shades of God (1992)", "True Belief" from "Icon (1993)" and "Say Just Words" from "One Second (1997)". Tracks like "Erased", "The Enemy" and "Honesty in Death" from later albums are also quality material IMO.
Rating a compilation is always a bit tricky. Overall the quality of the material ranges from great to mediocre, but if you take into consideration the purpose of a sampler compilation, I think "Lost In Time" fully succeeds in it´s mission to document the musical development of Paradise Lost over the course of their first 13 albums. A 3.5 - 4 star (75%) rating is warranted.
