Persuader caught my eye because they were described as an angrier version of power metal, bringing back the aggressive edge which many power metal bands allow to slide. This turned out to be pretty much the case; more or less every feature of the band's sound is straight down the line power metal according to the Blind Guardian blueprint, just delivered a notch angrier than usual.
However, I actually found the approach less satisfying than I expected it to be. Yes, Jens Carlsson's lead vocals are angrier than is usual for power metal, but the effect is mildly ruined by the typically cheesy power metal backing vocals. Likewise, the guitar solos on the album really don't sound that different from usual power metal fare. I guess if you are a bigger power metal fan than I am and you want a mild change of pace that still stands squarely within the genre, it may be a good option, but if you dislike power metal or (like me) are just very selective and picky about what sort of power metal you do like, don't build your hopes up too high because Persuader aren't the radical departure from the formula they at first appear to be.
