UMUR
"For God Your Soul... For Me Your Flesh" is the debut full-length studio album by Autrian death metal act Pungent Stench. The album was released in April 1990 by Nuclear Blast Records. The original vinyl version contains 10 tracks while the CD version features no less than 10 bonus tracks taken from the band´s earlier split, EP and compilation releases. The album saw a 1993 CD re-release without the bonus tracks but with re-recorded versions of the songs "Embalmed in Sulphuric Acid", "Blood, Pus and Gastric Juice" and "Suspended Animation" that replaced the original versions.
The band play a rather simple blood´n´gore themed death metal style on the album. The band is a three-piece and the featured instrumentation is guitar, bass and drums. The vocals are growling and aggressive and the raw and unpolished production gives the music a filthy sound. The songs are generally not that memorable but there are a couple of hooks here and there to prevent the album from being completely uninteresting. I like the many guitar solos ( and a couple of bass solos too if I´m not mistaken) that are featured on the album. They are not very well played but adds some needed variation.
"For God Your Soul... For Me Your Flesh" really isn´t the most interesting death metal release to my ears, but considering that the album was released in 1990 I guess it´s allright. If you enjoy your death metal delivered with a filthy attitude and a raw and unpolished sound "For God Your Soul... For Me Your Flesh" might be your poison. Personally I like the band´s later output a lot more than this one and I can´t give more than a 2.5 star rating.
