"Ad Nauseam" is the second full-length studio album by UK death metal/goregrind act The Rotted. The album was released through Candlelight Records in October 2011. While "Ad Nauseam" may be considered The Rotted´s sophomore full-length studio album, the band actually released three studio album under the Gorerotted monicker before changing their name to The Rotted in 2008. The band formed in 1997, so it´s a seasoned crew.
While Gorerotted started out playing goregrind/gore themed death metal, and that sound was pretty much continued on The Rotted´s 2008 debut full-length studio album "Get Dead or Die Trying" (although the death metal elements were increased a bit on that release), the original tracks on the 2010 EP "Anarchogram" (most are covers) increased the grindcore/hardcore punk elements of the band´s sound. To my ears the music style on "Ad Nauseam" continues down that road and the material features many grindcore/hardcore punk elememnts, while still featuring some deathgrind/death metal elements.
The material is relatively varied in style and tracks like "Surrounded by Skulls" and "Motörbastärds" (which is obviously a tribute to Motörhead) are instantly catchy and memorable. The closing doomy and gloomy death metal track "Put Me Out of Your Misery" is also one of the standout tracks on the album. "Ad Nauseam" features a well sounding production, which is both raw, detailed, and powerful, so upon conclusion it´s a good quality release and it´s a bit more interesting than what it may first appear. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
