Listening to Roxxess' EP back and forth really took my memories down the lane where the party boys of rock and roll such as Poison and Pretty Boy Floyd are busy wrecking havoc in every place they crash. But this disc isn't necessarily imitating because with the singer sounded like Paul Stanley and the riffs are highly influenced by Hanoi Rocks, Roxxess' music is different in its own way, but doesn't fall off the cliff of 80s decade for sure.
"Straight On" is pretty straight forward hard rock with abundant melodies packed tight in a wonderful verse and superb chorus. Hermann also unleashed a very good solo in here. "Stage Now" is a good uptempo tune, the riffs are somehow ordinary, but nothing's really wrong with this track, only maybe a type of song that's too generic. "Teenage Nights" is paying homage to Hanoi Rocks, I even swear that this might be a song Michael Monroe never written.
"Sky High" is a semi-ballad track, a beautiful thing they have, from the illuminating verse to the sensational chorus, a midtempo tune that will make you sing along all day long. "All I Wanna Do" is a brilliant closer, I like this track a lot and among my fave pick of the album.
All in all, this German quartet puts out a very good album, but I expect spicier riffs in the full album, and a more inventive approach and risk-taking songs will be nice. I'm eager to hear the complete studio album when available, but for now, this EP is a delicious appetizer for the main course to come.
