"Electric Death" is a demo by Danish thrash metal act Scavenger Brats. It was released in April 2013 and is the band´s second demo. The first one was released in 2010. "Electric Death" is both available on cassette tape and as a "Name Your Price" download on the band´s Bandcamp profile. The 6 tracks on the 23:48 minutes long demo were recorded live at a Klub Kaos rehearsel (probably just another name for the band´s rehearsal room) in July 2012. The vocals were overdubbed over the next month and the whole thing was mixed by the band´s lead vocalist/bassist Thor.
...and indeed there is a nice and raw live quality to the recordings. High energy thrash metal delivered with intense passion and packed in a raw and lo-fi (but not bad quality) sound production. I hear some mid-80s Slayer influences in the music, but there are nods toward a couple of different 80s US thrash metal acts from the raw end of the spectrum. The music is both aggressive and occassionally anthemic in nature. Scream along choruses, screaming guitars and fast paced thrashy rythms. Songtitles like "Aggressive Mentality", "Born in Hell" and "Too Weak to Live" should also give you an idea of the retro old school thrash metal nature of the music.
So it´s safe to say the music on "Electric Death" isn´t the most original sounding material out there, but who cares when it´s delivered with fierce passion and furious speed like it is here. The band are very well playing (and Thor has a great raw voice), the tracks are memorable and the sound production is quite charming and suits the material well. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
