"Alive and Dead" is an EP release by US death metal act Six Feet Under. The EP was released through Metal Blade Records in October 1996. It bridges the gap between the band´s debut and 2nd full-length studio albums "Haunted (1995)" and "Warpath (1997)". The title "Alive and Dead" is a pun on the fact that the EP features 3 new studio tracks (one of which is a cover of "Grinder" by Judas Priest), and 4 live tracks.
The two new original tracks "Insect" and "Drowning" are both heavy and hook laden old school death metal tracks, not far from the music style on "Haunted (1995)", but slightly better produced. "Grinder" is a pretty good cover too although some Judas Priest fans may cry "blasphemy" because of the growling vocals. The 4 live tracks are all culled from "Haunted (1995)" and they feature a good sound quality and are performed pretty well too.
All in all "Alive and Dead" is a relatively high quality EP release by Six Feet Under and with it´s 23:20 minutes of playing time, you also get quite a bit of quantity for your money, so it´s a recommended purchase. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
