UMUR
"Commandment" is the 9th full-length studio album by US, Florida based death metal act Six Feet Under. The album was released through Metal Blade Records in April 2007. It´s the successor to "13" from 2005.

Stylistically the material on "Commandment" is unmistakably the sound of Six Feet Under. Old school US death metal with relatively simple brutal riffs and rhythms, and Chris Barnes brutal growling vocals and gore/horror drenched lyrics in front. There are brutal grooves a plently here, and although Six Feet Under in many ways don´t sound like Obituary, the two artists do have a lot in common in the way they utilize brutal grooves.

While the material is both well performed and "Commandment" is well produced too, the tracks on the album are a little one-dimensional in nature and it´s not an album which last long in the memory beyond its playing time. When that is said I still find "Commandment" an entertaining old school death metal release and come on...a song title like "Zombie Executioner" should bring a smile to the face of most old school death metal fans. A 3 - 3.5 star (65%)

Six Feet Under is a highly experienced band, with their debut album released back in 1995.

Commandment from 2007 is my first experience with this band; and I'll have to admit I wasn't deeply impressed by this release. Distinct influences from Possessed and early Celtic Frost, as well as classic Venom; with more modern growling chosen as vocal style. Meaning slow-to midpaced aggressive riff patterns of the darker variety and intense drumming dominating the tunes here. Well played, performed and executed - but the songs themselves mostly fail to make an impact above being nice.

Fans of Possessed in particular might want to check this out - although the music here is much less intricate than what the death metal pioneers made during their brief career.
