I am the demon...
Genre: old school speed metal
Another release that makes me go "Fuck yeah!", Speedwolf's "Ride With Death" is a lesson in old school speed metal that never strays from its traditional metal roots.
The two first tracks on the album make clear what the musical direction of Speedwolf is on this album, as 'Speedwolf' is a fast and furious speed metal song, while 'Up All Night' is an all out classic metal affair. Throughout the album, Speedwolf explore this transition zone between traditional metal and speed metal, and they do so with great success. Their music is aggressive and energetic, which owes just as much to the slightly punky edge that Speedwolf's music has on this release as to their metal rage.
While not entirely dissimilar to Witchunter and Enforcer, Speedwolf's music is much more gruff and edgy. This might owe to their Motörhead inspiration and to Reed Bruemmer's raw vocals. Think Motörhead on speed and Danzig on steroids, and you have Speedwolf.
If you like retro speed metal, then you should definitely check this album out. There is simply nothing about it that is not great (and the cover artwork is no less than awesome).
