Fronted by Doug Howard whom also famed with Touch, Stun Leer, an unusual name, released 'Once' in 1997 and probably with no intention to conquer the world other than to contribute something good to the community for what I considered a pretty bad year for melodic rock. This album was packed with Def Leppard-harmonies and at least 4 killer tracks. Could have been better if they put more heart and soul into several fillers, and maybe add couple more goodies, but kudos for them for doin' this album anyway.
'If You Want Love', is the first stunning track and it's a ballad. Some said that 'Love Is A Liar' is a gem, but to me, it's pretty decent and because of the weak verse. 'Eye To Eye', is the second hit, a magnificent uptempo tune with terrific riffs. 'Hungry Eyes' and 'Deliver' are two brilliant tracks on the second half and Michael McCabe delivered superior guitar solos on these two songs.
I passed on 'Go Don't Go', 'Foolin', and 'All The King's Horses', all of them were the low part of this album, but definitely not bad at all though. It's still acceptable, only it's too average to compete with the rest. If you dig AOR/MHR and loved Touch or Howard's vocal, this is a nice thing to have. I may only rate it around 75%, but judging from the year of its release, it's an oasis in the desert.
