How would you rate an album that starts with a 6 star version of a 5 star song? Well, it of course depends on the stuff that follows, but that's mainly 5 star versions of 3.5 to 4.5 star songs with the occasional 5 star song in the mix, for example The Torch or Loneliest Place In The World.
That said, Ten are a hell of a live band. I was introduced to the band with this album and later a bit disappointed about some of the studio versions and albums. Interestingly, the second CD of Never Say Goodbye is filled with 4 studio tracks which are not bad, If Only For A Day the best among them, but none can compete with the main part fo the album. Somehow I have the impression that most songs are played 10 bpm faster than the studio versions which gives them additional power. But I still haven't named the three best songs of the album, although one of them got mentioned in the first sentence. I'll do it in a simple ranking list this time: The Robe (which is another personal Top 10 song), Name Of The Rose and Fly Like An Eagle.
Without the studio tracks I would rate the album 5.0 stars, with them it is still 4.8 which rounds up to 5 stars.
