Thrash of the sick...
Genre: melodic thrash metal
trainwreck Architect is a Canadian band from Montral, and "Traits of the Sick" is their debut album. The album will be released worldwide on November 12th and will be available on iTunes, Amazon and other channels.
So, what does the album sound like? Well, we are dealing with thrash metal of the more melodic, but no less aggressive, kind. Drawing on both thrash metal and traditional heavy metal, Trainwreck Architect fall into the same category as Anthrax and Death Angel. "Traits of the Sick" particularly reminds me of Death Angel's "Act III" - of course, without being a rip-off. I don't know if this is because of the similarity between the voices of Trainwreck Archtect's vocalist Simon Ouellet and Mark Osegueda, or whether there actually are some musical similarities too. In any case, the songs on "Traits of the Sick" are extremely well composed and neatly balance between the aggressive and the melodic, and the listener is treated to an ecletci blend of features from around the metal universe.
The production is a bit raw and fuzzy at times, but this adds a edge to the music and a sense of authenticity. Moreover, although it is a bit tinny at points, the production does not disturb the listening experience at all, and I appreciate how the bass is nicely audible. There is nothing wrong with the musicianship, and, as mentioned, the songwriting is solid and inspired.
A nice blend of elements from around the metal univers wrapped in melodic thrash metal, Trainwreck Architect's "Traits of the Sick" is nicely eclectic and sophisticated, and should appeal to fans of Death Angel, Anthrax and Annihilator.
