Genre: some kind of blackened death metal
Hailing from Sweden, Tribulation's sound is described as death metal but in reality - at least on "The Formulas of Death" - it defies any strict genre classification. In other words, they're pretty original and innovative.
Combining death metal aesthetics with black metal, thrash metal, and hardcore/crust elements, Tribulation have arrived at a pretty unique-sounding album, which still features many recognizable elements. Importantly, the overarching sense of darkness that pervades the album is very black metal-esque, and, it also features the tense harmonies and the fuzzy production of black metal, also throwing some black metal-styled blastbeats at you.
But these extreme metal elements show up side by side with both melodic elements and passages that have more in common with traditional metal and even hard rock. From the universe of punk, Tribulation make good use of d-beats and post-hardcore elements. Not only that, the listener can also expect to be treated to mellow, but dark, clean guitarred intermezzos and passages.
An eclectic and high original release, "The Formulas of Death" is recommended to adventurous fans of extreme metal.
