Doom metal and power metal aren't genres that are blended together all too often, but that's exactly what Italy's Trinakrius does on their third observation, Seven Songs of the Seven Sins. Sporting an impressive mix of doomy atmospheres, bombastic choruses, and guitar solos straight out of the classic metal handbook, it's tough to imagine very many metalheads not having a blast with the music conjured by Trinakrius.

Seven Songs of the Seven Sins is a concept album of sorts dealing with the seven deadly sins in Christian doctrine, and the band delivers this lyrical concept through some pretty dark sounding music. Although some tracks sound more power metal-influenced than others (like "Pride (I Am the One)" and "Lust (Sex Humanity)"), they still have a doomy edge that gives the entire album a coherent sense of atmosphere. I even sense a mildly progressive tinge to some of the tracks, particularly in "Gluttony (Anorexia)" with its Opeth-influenced clean guitar tone.

Trinakrius are also a technically accomplished act (Fabio Sparacello's strong vocal delivery particularly stands out to me), and the production sounds organic while still retaining a high level of intensity. In short, Seven Songs of the Seven Sins is a great album from Trinakrius across the board - fans of acts like Black Sabbath, Draconian, Iron Maiden, Evergrey, and Opeth should take notice!
