"Live in Decay" is the first demo recording by Polish death metal act Vader. The demo was recorded live at the Sala im. Gotowca - Kortowo in Olsztyn, on the 12th of December 1986. This was an early incarnation of Vader, and it´s only guitarist Piotr Paweł Wiwczarek who would remain when it came to recording the 1989 "Necrolust" demo (where he would also take over the vocal duties).
Stylistically this is a raw, lo-fi/bootleg sounding, noisy...warts and all type of live demo featuring a music style which isn´t far removed from the earliest releases by Sodom, Destruction, and Kreator. It´s high energy blackened thrash metal with a snarling rabib dog singer in front. The music has nothing to do with the band´s later thrash infused death metal style, this could just as well have been the work of a completely different band.
That doesn´t mean this is a bad quality recording which has nothing to offer, because that´s certainly not true, as Vader were already at this point a well playing unit and vocalist Czarny has a great aggressive delivery. So if you can live with a relatively lo-fi sound quality and the occasional talking from the audience audible on the recording, this is definitely worth a listen if you´re interested in blackened thrash metal from the 80s. A 2.5 - 3 star (55%) rating is warranted.
