"Radioactive Grind" is the debut full-length studio album by Mexican death metal/deathgrind act Acrostic. The album was released through Discos Dodo in July 1992. The original release was only on cassette tape, but the album saw a reissue on CD in 1997. Acrostic formed in 1991 and disbanded in 1994, releasing the 1992 "Sea of Faces" EP and this debut album before splitting-up.
Stylistially the material on the 13 track, 30:40 minutes long album is a simple type of death metal with deathgrind tendencies. I´m hearing a slight Terrorizer influence here, but this is generally a little more mid-paced. The vocals are processed growling, which sound a little odd, but still have a creepy charm to them. The playing isn´t the most accomplished (the lead guitar parts are weak, and the drumming untight), and I dare say that it´s occassionally a bit sloppy. Their cover of "Sweet Child O' Mine" (Guns´n´Roses) titled "A.I.D.S. (live) (Axl Infected Dick Sucker)" is pretty sweet, but only a short humorous diversion from their own music. "Fucked Maria" is also a little different as it´s a full blown punk/heavy metal song featuring hardcore influenced vocals.
The sound production is decent, but not great sounding. It sounds a little like a demo recorded down at the local youth club but with good quality recording gear. Upon conclusion "Radioactive Grind" is a decent but not good quality album by Acrostic, and while it has its occasional charms, it´s not an album I can recommend much. A 2.5 star (50%) rating warranted.
