UMUR
"Adolf Satan" is the eponymously titled debut full-length studio album by US, Boston based sludge metal act Adolf Satan. The album was released through Bestial Onslaught Productions in November 2004. Adolf Satan formed in 2003 and released a 2003 demo before releasing this debut album.
Stylistically the material on the 12 track, 35:03 is raw, menacing, and viciously aggressive sludge metal rooted in hardcore more than in metal. Minus the southern groove there are strong references in the music to an act like Eyehategod. This is nasty, sludgy, and filthy music, with repetitive grooves and doomy riffs, overlayed by screaming unintelligible vocals (the vocals are really extreme). This should test the endurance of some listeners, but there is a touch of brilliance to this which can´t be denied.
The album features a raw, organic, but very well sounding production job. Every detail of the music is audible in the soundscape, and it´s a both powerful and well balanced production. Upon conclusion this is what an authentic album sounds like. This is so honest, basic, and raw, that it´s almost like standing in the recording space with the band, and feeling/smelling the breath of Larry Lifeless when he spits out his tortured screaming vocals. A 3.5 star (70%) rating is deserved.
