Bang heads... or die trying...
Genre: thrash metal
Alcoholic thrash metal is, of course not a new thing, with bands such as Tankard, Wehrmacht and Drünken Bastards being among the spearheaders. The Canadian thrash act Alcoholator carries on the beer-guzzling tradition within thrash metal on their appropriately titled album "Coma".
Although there are beer thrasher acts all over the world, it is a (pseudo)genre associated primarily with Europe, and specifically with Germany. What is interesting here is that "Coma" sounds much more Teutonic than North American. Thus, the listener is treated to simple, and very fast, thrashing riffage accompanied by screechy vocals. I must say that, as thrash metal goes - if we are just interested in all our aggression and midtempo mosh-friendly bridges and not so much in innovation - then, "Coma" is actually a pretty good album musically.
The lyrics from the obvious alcohol-worshipping lyrics, which are, if nothing else, humorous and funny - (I mean, even a abstentionist dude like me find phrases like "Liquid thrash / Smoking hash / Liquid thrash / Need more cash" incredibly funny) to your nihilist lyrics about violence, abductions, death and destruction.
For my money, "Coma" is a very enjoyable retro thrash metal album. If you like this sort of music, buy the album... or die trying.
