ALYSON AVENUE returns to the scene with 'Changes', a new album in 7 years and reflects a real change in formation, but stays true to their classic sound. Annette Olson who left the band to front NIGHTWISH, was replaced by Arabella Vitanc, a singer that has a very close pipe to Olson's. For those who's not familiar with their music, this is a melodic rock act with a mix of HEART's AOR touch, the later-day version of WITHIN TEMPTATION, and the glammy VIXEN.
'Liar' opened up the album and this is the single track that's still feature Olson on vocal. A heavy tune and a great one. 'Amazing Days', 'Fallen', 'Somewhere', and 'Always Keep On Loving You' are also brilliant and all of them are fast-paced tracks. It seems that ALYSON AVENUE did a better job in heavier tunes although they're still capable of creating a great ballad as well, and 'Don't Know If Love Is Alive' is a proof of that.
The rest are consistently good too with only 'Into The Fire' being the weakest, but it's still listenable. The production is awesome and the man behind it is Chris Laney so you know what to expect. However, a little complaints I have here are that most of the songs here sound like they're forcely ended, giving an unnatural ending on each song, and too formulaic, also lack of variety. Overall, a nice effort and a solid comeback! 80%
