UMUR
The subtly titled "Sluts" is the debut full-length studio album by the equally subtly named Singapore based brutal death metal/grindcore act Analdicktion. The album was released through Scrotum Jus Records in April 2011.
The band play a mix of brutal death metal and gore/porngrind. Song titles like "Whoreaphobic", "Semen Covered Butchered Whores" and "Phrenetic Impaled Vaginal Dissection" probably tell the story about the music and the lyrical content better than a long explanation from me. So it´s safe to say you´ve heard it all before. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. Analdicktion are actually pretty solid musicians and they deliver the goods in that department. I have a hard time appreciating the lead vocalist and his uintelligible, monotone and juicy growling. I understand this is a feature often used in the genre, and I´m not against the use of that type of vocals, but they have to be complimented by other types of growling, sneering vocal types to have impact. The way they are used here the effect wears off quickly and it soon becomes tiresome. It´s actually too bad though as the music is relatively varied for the genre and as mentioned above the band are really well playing.
The sound production is clear for the genre and I think it suits the music well. The snare drum has a rather atrocious sound though. It sounds like someone hitting a tin cup.
This particular sub genre is overpopulated by artists that sound more or less the same. You´ll find very few that stick out and who try to incorporate original ideas to their brand of extreme metal. I´m assuming it´s because the vast majority of people into this kind of music are conservative as hell and would slaughter their heroes if they strayed too far from the path. Well... those fans can rest assure that they will get exactly what they expect listening to "Sluts". For the rest of us more casual listeners of this genre this is just another brutal death metal/grindcore release with nasty misogynistic and gore laden lyrics and imagery. It´s in the better half of this type of releases though and I´ll hand out a 3 star (60%) rating.
