UMUR
"Out in the Night..." is the first demo recording by Danish heavy metal act Apocalypse. The demo was recorded and mixed on the 1st of June 1986 and features 4 tracks and a total playing time of 19:18 minutes. Apocalypse formed in 1983, released this demo and then changed their name to Force Majeure in 1988.
The demo opens with the close to instrumental (there are a couple of shouted choir parts but no lead vocals) "Hey!", which is a heavy metal track with neo-classical leanings but with the second track "Infernal War Machine" lead vocals are added and the music becomes more hard rocking and harder edged heavy metal. Apocalypse are a well playing band and lead vocalist Rene Gade has a strong voice and a convincing delivery.
Considering that "Out in the Night..." was recorded and mixed in one day it´s a good quality demo both in terms of sound quality and the performances. It´s warts and all and there are a couple of smaller playing errors here and there, but it only adds to the authenticity of the recording. I´m sure these guys must have been a blast seing live in those days. Upon conclusion Apocalypse definitely had something good going here, although it´s not exactly unique sounding. A 3 star (60%) rating is well deserved.
