Beyond The Dust's first album,New dawn was a great first effort by a band i feel has a lot of talent,if onyl they could decide on one mayeb 2 singing styles, while remaining metalcore they appear to have progressive influences and black metal influences, most notably their shrieking. anyways lets review the music
1.)Ascending
i must say i am a huge fan of shorter quieter songs like this one to open up albums (my personal favourite being Sirens & Sailors first track from their debut)
but it's nothing special or different, that beign said it's still a cool little track that's effective at opening the album
2.)New Dawn
The title track delivers, its a great song with a great intro with the guitar and the drums sounding just off to create an almost progressive feel, the verses though are lackign with teh vocals switching from death metal growls to black metal shrieks, but then to an awesoem sounding chorus with good clean vocals, they then continue through the sound quite nicely with a quick instrumental section then back into the indecisve vocals, but by this point the vocal style is growing on the listener and is quite unqiue
3.)Dust In My Veins
first thing i noticed is great drumming plus vocals pushed up in the mix make a great song, the band then has a clean, kinda soft, dreamy guitar lien that compliments the brutal drumming,i absolutly love the ablity to udnertsand the vocals the first time becuase of where they are in the mix all in all another great song
4.)Silenced
the song conjurns up images of battles, its absolutly briallant until the verse where they have blasting -.-" i hate blast beats with a passion then that vocal style you thought was growing on you it chanegs too often and too quickly it really takes away from the song. and yet again the chorus is the best part(this band is getting repetive already and it's ony been 4 songs) then a progressive of sorts breakdown sounds pretty cool but still that chorus is the only thing saving the song.
5.)Chained At The Gate
YAY ANOTHER QUIET INTRO :D
this song is clearly the most progressive of them all up unti lthis point but still remaisn in that genre of metalcore a mix that works out quite nicely they stick to growls for the most part which is great becuase there's finally some consistancy with their vocals, at about 2 mintues in i was lovign this track this song and the title track are by far my favorite tracks there's even a "djent" riff in there its great still though it doesn't sound original enough.
6.)The Fall some nice clean vocals to start of with but then it just sounds lik a carbon of the other songs and that annoying switching of vocal styles is back a very disapointed track
i like the band i like the album but they have to develop their own sound but a solid debut i hope to see more they have lot of talent and potential if only they coudl stick to the growls and clean vocals the shrieks are very distracting
